Za ich uśmiechy i poczucie humoru. Za troskę gdy Kuba skręcił kostkę i musiał poruszać się na kulach. Za liczne wskazówki dotyczące transportu, miasta i okolic. Za to, że przy każdej okazji chcieli podzielić się historią swojego miasta. Za zwrot ‘’baby’’ z typowym, południowym akcentem. Za rytmy jazzu i bluesa na ulicach, które słyszeliśmy na każdym kroku. Za tańce i występy. Za luz, spontaniczność i entuzjazm. Za przewodników z prawdziwego zdarzenia. Za pozowanie na widok aparatu. Dziękujemy!
Why have I fallen in love with New Orleans? There are a few reasons!
Wonderful people
Always with a smile and a sense of humor. They have shown great care when Kuba sprained his ankle and had to use crutches. They are always ready to give tips about public transport, the city and surroundings as well as tell you about the history of New Orleans. They say the word ”baby” with the typical southern accent. The city vibrates with the sounds of jazz and blues, enchants with street performances and dance and intrigues with spontaneity and enthusiasm. Tourist guides are one of a kind. And everyone loves the camera!

French Quarter – dzielnica Francuska jest kwintesencją Nowego Orleanu – tutaj szukajcie noclegu jeśli chcecie poczuć niezwykłą atmosferę i magię miasta. Jest to najstarsza i najbardziej znana część miasta, która przeżyła panowanie francuskie, hiszpańskie i amerykańskie. Na każdym kroku widać ślady wszystkich tych kultur w architekturze, kuchni i oczywiście w ludziach. To tu spotkamy najwięcej muzyków, artystów, malarzy, magików, wróżek i innych przedstawicieli szeroko pojętej sztuki. Liczne restauracje, kawiarnie a nawet bary oferujące drinki na wynos zaspokoją gusta i podniebienia każdego smakosza . Do tego galerie i małe butiki a to wszystko przy rytmach wszechobecnego jazzu!
French Quarter
The heart of New Orleans. Look for accommodation here if you want to feel the unique atmosphere and magic of the city. It is the oldest and most famous part of the city which has been under the French, Spanish and American rule throughout the centuries. Everywhere you go you can trace these different cultures in architecture, cuisine and the people. This is also the home of artists: musicians, painters, magicians, fortune-tellers… Here you will find restaurants, coffee shops and bars offering take-away drinks as well as galleries and boutique-shops which will definitely satisfy everyone’s tastes. And all that to the sound of jazz!
Za Mardi Gras
Wielotygodniowe obchody karnawału ściągają fanów dobrej zabawy z całego świata, a my zupełnie przypadkiem znaleźliśmy się tam w kulminacyjnych dniach parad, tuż przed Mardi Gras czyli tłustym wtorkiem. Całe miasto przybiera wtedy barwy złoto-zielono-fioletowe. Na ulicach od wczesnych godzin porannych aż do nocy ludzie ustawiają się na wyznaczonych trasach, gdzie wyjeżdżają udekorowane platformy poszczególnych Krewes ( grup), z których rzucane są kolorowe koraliki monety, maskotki i inne „throws” – kolorowe ozdoby. Musze przyznać ze wróciliśmy do domu z małą walizką tych darów!
Mardi Gras
A few-week long Mardi Gras celebrations attract fun-seekers from all over the world. We found ourselves there just a few days before Shrove Tuesday, the culminating point of the carnival, when the whole city beams with the colors of gold, green and violet. All day long, in the designated areas, there are people in the streets waiting for decorated platforms of Krewes that throw colorful beads, coins, mascots and other ”throws”. We came back home with a big bag full of these riches!
Za architekturę i cmentarze
Głównie to właśnie architektura w dzielnicy Francuskiej zrobiła na nas największe wrażenie. Niskie, kolorowe kamieniczki z żeliwnymi balkonami z których zwisają bujne rośliny, nadają jej niepowtarzalny charakter.
Mieszkańcy Nowego Orleanu chowają swoich bliskich w przepięknych mogiłach. Cmentarze często nazywane są tu miastami umarłych, co wcale nie dziwi gdyż piętrowe grobowce i architektura tych miejsc przypomina miniaturowe miasteczka. Jedną z najczęściej odwiedzanych nekropolii jest Saint Louis Cementery no 1 – to właśnie tu spoczywa najsławniejsza nowoorleańska kapłanka voodoo Marie Laveau.
Architecture and cemeteries
We are deeply impressed by the architecture of the French Quarter. Low, colorful houses with cast-iron balconies, ornamented with long dangling plants create a unique character. New Orleaners bury their beloved in beautiful graves. Cemeteries here are often called ”the cities of the dead” ,which is understandable, because of the multi-storyed tombs and the architecture resembling that of a little town. Saint Louis Cemetery no 1 is one if the most popular, as it is the home of the tomb of Marie Laveau, the most famous New Orleans voodoo priestess.
Za plantacje w Luizjanie
Wszakże to już nie Nowy Orlean ale jego położenie sprawia, że niecała godzina dzieli nas od podroży w czasie. Plantacje to chyba największe ‘’wow” tego wyjazdu. To niesamowite rezydencje, kilkusetletnie dęby, od których oczu nie mogłam oderwać, ale przede wszystkim historie ludzi którzy tam mieszkali i pracowali. Nam udało się odwiedzić tylko dwie ale na pewno wrócimy po więcej! Szykujcie się na osobny wpis.
Plantations in Louisiana
We are in awe with the place! Plantations are around one-hour drive from New Orleans and this is the amount of time that is needed to take us back in time: amazing residencies, mesmerizing hundreds-year-old oaks and above all stories of the people who worked and lived there. We have visited two plantations but will definitely be back to see more! I promise to tell you more in a separate post.
